Weight and the Creepy Guy (RL Update)

Feb 21, 2013 23:08

After the first time I weighed myself, I didn't do it again right because my monthly visitor had arrived and I didn't want any bloating to affect the results. We exercised at our gym last week and we used the scale at Gold's, but the scale is the same as the one they use in doctor's offices and neither Michael and I really trust those. But we used ( Read more... )

If only you had a female workout buddy! You might see results that match your own a bit better. Men's bodies typically take off weight much more easily. The common wisdom is that evolutionarily, they were generally the ones out hunting, so they'd never really need fat stores to survive off of, but they would need to be able to burn lots of energy to hunt for a long time. Women generally had to wait until a man brought back food, so she'd need every ounce of fat she could keep, especially if she was breastfeeding. Plus, women are more prone to keeping on weight because their bodies need to be capable of bearing fetuses. None of this is relevant now, of course, but our bodies haven't quite caught up with modern-day realities yet. So basically, don't feel discouraged if Mike is seeing more results more quickly. You're operating on different scales.

I did hear that men lose weight easier than women. So I'm trying to not compare Mike's weight loss with mine. I do enjoy working out with him. I love working together and he's the perfect person to motivate me.

Guys tend to lose weight faster. I went to the gym with guy and girl friends alternatively last summer and the guys were so much more into it and making more progress so I was glad to have my girl friends there on other days.

But yay for progress! And I know that peas and beans have protein so I don't know if that fits with your diet.

And more yay for creepy guys not really being creepy and for new locks. And hopefully the fight is more like a small squabble.

I've definitely read about beans having a lot of protein and really being good for you. Times like this I miss my mom's cooking, because she always made a lot of bean based stuff.

I hope it's more a little squabble, too. :)

I agree with the others about guys losing weight more easily. A friend of mine and her husband recently went on a diet together and he lost weight much more quickly than she did (he had less to lose though). So you can't really compare yourself to your BF as far as that goes.

You may have mentioned this earlier, but are you doing a specific diet? I did Weight Watchers over the last few months and it worked great. I lost 25 lbs. I did the online fom, didn't go to meetings. It does cost money though. I need the structure to motivate me. For me, the biggest thing is carbs, including sweets. If I cut those out, it makes a big difference. Interestingly, on WW you can eat as much fruits and veggies as you want (not fruit juice). So I ate fruit a lot as a snack. Anyway, I'm cheering you on!

That's so great that you trust your BF like that. You seem to have a good relationship.

Oh, that wasn't the icon I meant to use!

Congratulations on your weight loss. Thanks for the support.

Right now, we're doing this diet called the PaleoBurn, or something like that. It involves a lot of limiting carbs, eating meats and protein. I would like to eat a lot of fruit. But the diet says to limit fruit intake to once a day because most fruits have a lot of sugar.

Yeah, I was surprised that WW lets you eat as much fruit as you want. They do warn that if you're not losing weight, you should look at how much fruit you're eating.

Paleo - I'm hearing more and more about this. It sounds pretty limited in what you can eat.

Best of luck again! It's hard!

It's definitely limited in what you can eat. I remember looking at the food list they provide you with, and basically you can eat all kinds of meat, vegetables, and fruit(in limited servings) and that's almost it. And when I saw the drink list was just water, black coffee, and tea, I was shocked.

Thanks.
