Wonderful. Jack's certainty of Norrington trying to ride out the hurricane is sad because we know the end result, and I've certainly developed a soft spot for the commodore since DMC. The ending of this was fabulous. Rum-buring chit - priceless. : )
I love Scruffy Norrington. So happy they developed his character in such a different direction -- more of the same from CotBP wouldn't have worked nearly as well.
So happy you enjoyed the fic. Thanks for letting me know!
My husband steered me to it early last week and I've adored it ever since! Writely was the purchase of Google and Googles answer to the word processor that is free and I do hope they kick Microsoft's ASS!
Now, all Writely needs to add to their processor is something to rival Excel. Since I don't have Excel or any spreadsheet software on this computer, I satisfy my need for the most part with using Tables in Word. But I want to get completely AWAY from Word, and haven't found any kind of Tables function there.. *sighs*.. If you've found it and can steer me there...
I'm telling all my friends about Writely and so far, I've converted every single one! The ability to share a document for editing is brilliant for us writers, eh?
Oh, and I completely didn't comment about your lil' 15 minute fic; sorry mate. It was just so bloody late and I was hurrying off to bed. No better excuse, I'm afraid.
So, better late, than never: I did like your little snippet. Jack's reflection on Norrington's possible demise in the face of the hurricane. One captian to another- there's a bond there. A caring for ship and for souls that neither of them can deny that in command, there's a great responsibility. Well done!
Thanks so much for coming back to comment, Julie. Yes, I think Jack's empathy is one of the best things about him, though it gets in the way of his profession occasionally.
Thanks! So glad you liked the story. Yes, I had heard about the magazine -- went out and bought a copy some time ago, actually. It was pretty wild seeing that top ten list in print!
I think he'd always hold that rum-burning incident over Elizabeth's head, even if he's forgiven her for it. I'm very happy you liked the characterization of Jack. Thanks for reading, and commenting!

but his sixth sense about these things (and maybe a vague memory or two, and perhaps a dash of luck) had enabled him to find a sheltered harbor
Really liked this line.
