So I'm in a fight.  A fight with Latin.  Latin and I don't really understand each other at the present moment and I don't think we ever will again.  I'm tired of sitting in class with people that know how to translate things.  I'm tired of having a professor who expects me to understand everything about the language without ever reviewing grammar  ( Read more... )

you're giving up?

thats..... unlike you.

nate, who adores you and like you adores language, got one C in his life. in all of his schooling. Advanced Spanish Grammar. yes my dear. nate who spent a year abroad in spanish speaking countries. who teaches spanish as a living. and reads books in spanish for fun.

just becuase you're having trouble now doesn't mean you always will. i suggest persaverence, office hours, study sessions with life long latin studiers, and continued studies of classics which you do so adore.

i do not remeber a time when you couldn't do something you wanted to do. except yu know obvious thigns like: walking on ice without falling and not laughing when people poke you in the ribs.

I have also parted with Greek (we move onto actual English next semester), but it was definitely on friendlier terms than you and Latin. I was lucky my tutor didn't kill it for me, though--he went to Baghdad instead. (I'll tell you about it when I get home.)
