A questionnaire and some crafts to share

Jan 17, 2011 23:30

Hi everyone,
I'm a lurker, crafter, and graduate student studying fandom crafting for my masters thesis, and I'm doing a short informal questionnaire about fan craft over at my journal. If anyone happens to be interested and wants to answer a few questions, I'd really appreciate it!

You can find the questionnaire here.

And so this isn't just a plea for help )

I love the cameo! By the way, I have to ask- what major are you that you get to study geekiness? Sounds awesome.

Design Studies. I like the program a lot, it's really flexible. I focus on history of textiles and on grass roots craft, and I realized that no one had really looked at fancraft/geekcraft academically before, and it's so close to my heart that here I am!

OHMYGOD YOUR MASTER'S THESIS SOUNDS BAD-ASS.
I have nothing else of value to offer. That just needed to be said.

You're welcome, I hope you get loads of good answers. Do you have to write a lot in your thesis? How do you get enough info for a thesis like this? I've always been curious about that hehe.
I'm currently in a physics program, so for our theses it's a lot more straightforward.. just cram your thesis paper full of equations and you're done LOL. Then add some graphs, do some fits... hehe.

Aah physics is way over my head. I'm doing a survey and collecting images and comments about fancraft, which I'll then write about and see how it compares to non fandom craft. There will also be a lot of talking about contemporary craft and the history of fandom and such. Usually in my department they run about 100 pages, I hope I can make it that long!
