Mario-Baby-Cross-Stitch?

My friend Jessica is expecting her first baby (a girl) in March of this year (YAY FOR HER!) and she and her husband are decorating the baby's room in Mario stuff. What I'd like to do is cross stitch the baby's name in Mario memorbilia or symbols and things that are in the game. Apparently, ( Read more... )

That sounds cuper cute. You should check out www.spritestitch.com, they have a lot of ready made patterns of different Mario sprites and the like.

Make the letters into the pipes from the game & have the characters/objects on or around them.
If you want a base line rather than floating letters, you could use the game's ground pattern.
Heck, you could even do the backgrounds if you're feeling particularly inspired.

The beauty of 8-bit is that you basically have the template provided; all you have to do is figure out the colors.

This. Good idea with the pipes. Which got me thinking--if you have to deal with complicated letters/shapes (say, an S), you could make the letter out of coins!

You could, but I'd probably keep all the letters the same style.
It'll help with the continuity.
For an S, you could make 2 C-shaped pipes & put a coupler flange in the middle.
I'd leave the coins & other decorative elements as accents.
Just my $0.02, though.

I made a baby princess peach bib for a friend's little girl last year. I could show you a picture and probably dig up the pattern if you're interested!

If you use Google images and search "mario crossstitch" you should get lots of ideas. Here are some examples:

I love the Mario Progression pattern. Good luck, this is a very cool project!
