More books!

  1. Women and Money, Suze Orman. I kind of regret spending money on this. I know a lot of people really love her, but I found this a bit condescending (despite what Amazon says) and it didn't tell me anything that I haven't heard before. Meh.
  2. The Woad to Wuin, Peter David. Yes, the jokes still continue even unto the book titles. B5 ( Read more... )

Curious: what did you find condescending about the Orman book? I've never read any of her books.

I actually read this a while ago, but I remember being pretty annoyed by what seemed to me like a Stewart Smalley sort of "Gosh darn it, you're as capable as those men! *pat on the head*" tone. Well, yeah, I am--but that's not what I bought the book to find out. (I'll quote one of the Amazon reviews: "The first 1/4 of the book is basically Suze telling us in her psychoanalytic persona how wonderful and powerful women are and how we can really get ahead finally. I don't need 1/4 of her book telling me I'm good enough - enough Stuart Smalley. Just give me the real financial details."

I was hoping for less of the rah-rah cheerleading and more solid financial advice, I guess. Oprah gave away the PDF copy a couple months ago on her website, and I'd have been content to read it that way if I hadn't already bought it three weeks beforehand. =/ I hadn't read her stuff before and one of my coworkers really likes her, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Eh. Maybe her other books are better.
