It would be much, much easier to write a compelling justification for why I should get to attend OSCON if they'd hurry up and post a schedule. "You should send me because, uh, it'd be really kewl. There's lots of stuff there." Not going to cut it with the folks with the budget, sadly. Hopefully this year there won't be a repeat of last year's ( Read more... )

I should maybe ask one day to go on a conference. I never have, but that's largely self-fulfilling: if I ever had, I'd know why I would (or wouldn't) want them to send me.

Some of them are more worthwhile than others. If I'm going to shell out several thousand dollars all told (or ask my company to do so, more precisely), I'd like to come back having learned something useful.

Well... if they want you to write "really killer modern apps" then they *have* to send you to OSCON... =). Otherwise you'll have to just write safe, traditional apps...
