I did some pricing of replacement mirrors online and it looks like they run around $60-$70 for new parts so long as I don't want them painted to match. I suspect I can do the replacement myself and come in well under the $500 deductible, then get it painted later if it really irks me. I generally avoid the dealer if I can help it because they're not cheap.
I doubt it's worth me calling the insurance company about it to file a claim though, given that my deductible is higher than I suspect the repair bill will be
was to think "oh ho ho, you haven't asked the dealer for an estimate, have you?"
The Brandywine junkyards have their catalog online. Their database is occasionally confused as to where a car actually IS, mind you, but at least it'll give you an idea what's available and how much it costs.

Not at all. =) Since I'm shopping for a new insurance company, I'd like to avoid filing my first ever insurance claim during the process if I can at all help it. Now if I thought I could legitimately get the repair place to set me up with a heated mirror during the repair, that might be a different story. Given that I didn't have them to start with, I'm thinking "not happening", even though clearly AIG has no problem throwing cash around.

For us it was 70 for the non-matching mirror, 1/2 hour dealer labor to install for a total of 130. Could maybe be done DIY but I looked at it and it didn't look possible so we had the dealer install.
In the old days these things were welded to the fender. You couldn't get them off without s torch.
