First of all, thank you SO much for supplying me with a single document of this - I spent several very enjoyable hours reading it tonight. What an incredible, wonderful,beautifully written piece. As a former employee of substance abuse programs and a member of Al-Anon and another 12 Step program, I can say that everything here really rang true for me. This story made me smile and made me tear up at bit at the end when Dean poured out his feelings to his father's gravestone.

I love how you really took us inside Dean's screwed up head at the beginning, and led us so carefully and thoroughly through his recovery process. Brava, my dear! I'll definitely be reccing this to others, and I look forward to reading more of your work!

This is amazing. I've read more of your writings and I have too say, this one reminds me of my childhood. My dad was the same as John in this story and my brother and I went through so much because of him. Thank god our mother was sane and tried to make things work. My brother now has his own company and I'm studying medicine. So.. Thanks for the amazing read and for posting it!
