Ok, I have been fine right up until now, but the paragraph where John is telling Dean how proud of him he is and how Sam and Dean turned out to be good people despite him being a crappy father; I just found myself crying. You have really hit a nerve; this is how I talk to my kids and I really mean it. I always tell them that it doesn't matter to me what they do with their lives or what they've got, only that they're good people and they are. That's what makes me so proud of both of them, like when my son invited the old lady next door in for a cup of tea when she'd lost her keys and sat through her stories of her life with interest and then told her that she could pop in any time she wanted a chat and a cup of tea. That right there is what makes me proud. Exams and bit of paper? Doesn't matter to me if he never gets anything; he already gets the point.
