Folks Dressed Up Like Eskimos

“Dean and Cas aren’t coming,” Lucifer announces with a chuckle.  “Dean gave me some bullshit line about the snow outside and said they were staying in and turning their phones off.”

“He told us to stay over here tonight,” Sam adds with a snort.  “This has Cas written all over it.  Dean doesn’t have enough foresight to plan this.”

“Ouch,” Michael laughs.

“It’s true,” Gabriel adds from the kitchen.  “You give my little brother too much credit.  He’s a devious little shit when he wants to be.”

“What are they talking about?” Elijah murmurs from where he’s currently cocooned in Adam’s wings.

“Wasn’t paying attention,” Adam rumbles as he trails his fingertips along the lower part of Elijah’s spine before trailing them along the band of Elijah’s pants.

“You two are making us sick,” Lucifer announces.  “I hope you know that.  I think I liked you both better when you were pining for each other from afar.”

“Afar?” Gabriel snorts.  “They shared a room dip shit.”

“I will kill you,” Lucifer threatens with a grin.

“You’ll try,” Gabriel teases back.  “I’ll even let you think you succeeded.  But we’ll both know the truth.”

“Are they talking again?” Elijah whispers.

“Maybe,” Adam sighs.  “I told you I’m not paying attention.”

“What are you paying attention to?”  Elijah presses as he squirms until their bodies press more firmly together.

“You,” Adam murmurs.  “If you hadn’t noticed I’m a little bit distracted by the fact that you’re sprawled on top of me.”

“Oh is that all?” Elijah huffs.  “I can get up if I’m annoying you.”

Adam doesn’t comment but his wings and his arms clamp down around his mate with a force that makes it impossible for Elijah to even think of escaping.

“Get a room.” Sam mutters.  When neither of them moves Sam lifts a foot to shove against Elijah’s ass.  “No seriously, I mean it.  You’re flopped all over where Gabriel and I are going to be sleeping tonight.  Take your asses to your bedroom if you’re going to be all snuggly.  I want some cuddle time too.”

So they untangle themselves and manage to make it into their room.  It’s gotten a lot more comfortable since they bought the bigger bed.  Adam’s distracted by the easy way Elijah strips out of his clothing.  His mate sleeps naked, warm and smooth skin pressed up against him all night long.  Adam’s gotten used to drifting off to sleep with his head full of Elijah’s thoughts as their link gets stronger with each passing day.  He follows Elijah into bed, tangling their limbs together as his mate throws a leg around his hips and presses his cold nose up under Adam’s chin.  Elijah’s thoughts a contented jumble of: Mine, mate, love, love, love, so close, feels good, tired, sleepy, love, get closer, touch me, love you.

Adam smiles against Elijah’s hair as he cuddles his mate closer.  Elijah becomes an affectionate mess in his head when he’s slipping off to sleep.  It’s wonderful.  He’s just drifting off when Elijah’s thoughts suddenly sharpen like he just remembered something important.

Adam, Elijah sends through their link.  This is my first real Christmas as part of a family.

It’s true too; though Elijah had been there last year things had been strained between them.

Are you happy? Adam thinks back.

He doesn’t get words in response.  Elijah’s arms tighten until Adam almost can’t breathe and through their bond he’s overwhelmed with a sense of joy so intense that his eyes well up with tears and his wings quiver.  Adam presses back with more of the same emotion, grinning as he feels Elijah huff out a breath of surprise against his skin.

It’s a long time before they sleep.
