Another one out the door

All right, kids, time to put another notch in the handle, or maybe on the keyboard, I guess. I just got my third writing submission fired out into the ether a little while ago. That's three in three months. I must be going for some kind of record ( Read more... )

I wish you all the luck in the world. I haven't sent anything in a while, but I've been in that seat, waiting for a reply, hoping it's not a rejection. My fingers are crossed for you.

Oh, and by the way, here's the place I go to look for markets: www.duotrope.com

They cover TONS of fiction markets! Love it! They have a submissions tracker and everything. It's pretty amazing and free(!), though I donate to it periodically because I feel it's important.

Thanks! I'll take a look at the site when I'm back from work.

Wow. I am extremely impressed. Sure, this Beaumont guy may have you beat with the pace he set, but I hear about famous/great writers getting writer's block just as often as I hear about them putting out large amounts of stuff. And was Beaumont working full-time while putting out so many stories?

So how does this market thing work exactly?

I don't know if you plan to include me with those you'd show your work to, but I'd love to see it. Just sayin'. : )

I don't know if Beaumont was writing full time at that point or not. He might have been working full or part-time at that point and writing on the side, but that's a good point. Beaumont wrote a bunch of the Twilight Zone episodes.

For markets you just basically do a search on the web and see what publishers are looking for what kind of work. Fortunately, there's a tremendous web site called Duotrope's Digest that has compiled a massive listing of fiction publishers and all the details of their submission calls, requirements, etc. It's pretty amazing. I use it primarily when looking for markets. You can search by subject or pay scale or length or genre or whatever. It's amazingly powerful for a free site.

Ah, the Twilight Zone. That's a show I really need to delve into one of these days. I've owned the movie for a couple of years now, but it remains unopened. I saw it, or half of it, when I was a kid and haven't seen it since. I should get on that.

That site sounds amazing. I'm not even a writer, but I'm interested in checking it out just because.

I would dearly love to own the Twilight Zone DVD box set, but I hear it's a bit pricey, and my expenditures are pretty limited right now. Hell, I haven't even popped for a new car stereo since my old factory one died back in April or May or whenever, and that's a serious problem for a guy like me!

That site is fun! It's www.duotrope.com, and if you're going to investigate, go to the link for the "Deadline Calendar." It shows deadlines for themed submissions, like "Giant Monsters" or "Western Horror" or "Female Vampires" or "In space, no one can hear you scream." Good times!
