Lovely, that allows me to think about how to arrange my time. But annoying they'll only film for 3 days...

It was a short stint from the beginning and by now they probably just realised that they won't need to film that many scenes for the later episodes in PF. It's still a lot of trouble for them to transport all the equipment to France for just three or four days of filming.

Since the overall econimics are not really good, to save cost is wise.
Personally, I hope they can just wrap up the story in a good way, but seems investors of the show or TPTB still want to make more money through their Merlin brand. The magic reveal won't happen and they need it to draw fans' attention till they can make no more.
