I like how it's consistently dropping ....

Another drop in viewers - so - what was the lesson they learned again? How to tell a good story, or rely on CGI and guest actors. (and lets not forget to show some bare chest and run a poll as to what the ship name should be!)
Did they seriously think that all Merlin fans would reward them by watching this religiously - just because it has the same showrunners and writers?

Its been confirmed that Doctor Who will be occupying this time-slot starting August next year, I wonder what time-slot this will get relegated to?

Yeah, Moffat confirmed that S8 won't be split at the BFI screening of the Christmas episode yesterday, but as far as I know there's no official confirmation as to when it'll air. Media reports 'it's expected to air from August 2014' but somehow I can't quite imagine it'll occupy the Merlin/Atlantis timeslot. Mainly because it'd mean that from a certain point (end of September iirc) DW'd air 'against' X-Factor and although I'd exepect the show to get better overnight ratings than Atlantis this year, it's hard to imagine the BBC'd 'waste' their flagship show against XF.

Apart from that it'd also make the Atlantis renewal pretty much obsolete.

Will be interesting to see how this turns out. Should they really consider giving DW the Atlantis timeslot, I'd imagine people at BBC HQ regret the renewal of Atlantis even more. :P (Could they reconsider?)

I suppose media reports and confirmation are not the same thing!

It will be interesting to see what happens then. Also wondering if the ratings in the US will mirror that of the UK in steadily declining as well, will that be a factor in the timeslot for season 2?
I can't imagine BBC HQ being happy as they must have been expecting much higher figures, (but then they must have only ever looked at the actual ratings for Merlin, and not taken into consideration people's actual reactions and comments)

On BBCAmerica Atlantis 1x01 had 838K viewers, 1x02 dropped to 291K.

I don't know how these decisions are made but it does seem like they don't take people's reactions/comments into consideration that much. Just look at the BBC's latest NOT!renewal: a third series of highly acclaimed and BAFTA nominated Ripper Street. They moved the show for the second series from a great Sunday night timeslot in spring to a dead-end Monday night slot in autumn where it had to air against I'm a Celebrity until last week.

SURPRISE!, the previously good ratings dropped and the BBC decided their own stupidity justified to not renew it (I'm so mad at them, RP is one of my favourite shows, amazingly well written and superbly acted and we won't get to see more, but they renewed Atlantis that's dropping in ratings every week >:((( ).

I've only seen the first three episodes but there's no charm to it and I will only watch it if there's nothing else on. Too bad they didn't understand what made Merlin popular.

is it just me or does it look like Atlantis won't last very long?

As gealach_ros pointed out in another Atlantis-related post (and I share the thought) it's most likely that BBC was just buying its time in allowing the second series cause they didn't have a back-up plan to replace Atlantis just yet. They obviously see the Saturday night slots as important marketing opportunities (what will all the children/teenagers enthusiasm) and having a 'loser' program is the last thing they want, especially after Merlin and Doctor Who's empires.
I highly doubt they'll give the JJs another chance, but I'm curious to see what's their next move to repair the damage -next year, or the other.

Jason will show more of his body next week. Well, this is the only thing I kind of look forward to. Call me shallow or something. LOL.
Seems to me that the Atlantis is a rather sudden supplement decision after Merlin is not renewed (for whatever reason).
