Yes, I noticed that the market scene was more or less 'The Dragon's Call'. When Arthur and Merlin got into a scrap with one another. In fact a lot of it, as has already been pointed out is more or less 'Merlin' shot for shot but using a different background. The episode was O.K, but I can't see myself watching it as a matter of priority like I did Merlin. Speaking of which after Atlantis was done I had to put on an episode of Merlin to get over Atlantis.
Given that both shows are set in (fictional) medieval times it doesn't come as a surprise that certain things are similar but the amount of similarities surprised me nonetheless.
Aww, I haven't watched a Merlin episode in such a long time (I just couldn't, it hurt too much :( ). Maybe I should consider a S1 and S2 rewatch, in the past these two series never failed to cheer me up. :D
I could not watch any episodes for a long time. But with September approaching and all the talk about Atlantis I started feeling rather bereft, so I started rewatching season 1 and was surprised how much I enjoyed it (nothing to do with the show of course, rather than my state of mind). It is lovely to see Colin and Bradley in their early days and as you watch looking back, there are many little things you notice that you would not have in a first watching. I feel a lot more aware of settings having been to Pierrefonds and with a knowledge of what happens later you can see where the plot goes right and wrong (or where there is no plot :) So I would encourage you to give it a go. Just seeing the old eps for Colin's and Bradley's sake is well worth it.
After the scene in the market I found myself comparing the rest of the episode to Merlin, rather than enjoying the show for what it is. Exactly. I only had time to capture similarities during the first seven minutes but there were many, many more. Sometimes they even chose identical camera angles.
We're all 5 years older. I'm 48 watching Atlantis not the 43 when I watched Merlin. So none of the writing/stunts/CGI/creatures/stunts really make any difference now than in 2008.
I started watching Merlin because Midnight piqued my curiosity about a certain young actor. He was 22 whereas Jack is 28. Big difference for young viewers. No difference at all for 40 somethings.
And clearly Jack never watched Merlin in 2008 because everything we saw on Saturday has been done on television before.
