X-Factor had a head start of 5 minutes, it started at 8.20pm. Atlantis started at 8.25pm, right after Strictly Come Dancing.

Wow, it did better than I'd expected. I guess we'll see next week if they're able to maintain that, build on it, or drop off.

I was actually a bit surprised it didn't do better - given that it's been fandom!promoted for a while and also by Sarah Parish and Juliet Stevenson on various BBC and ITV shows (TV and radio) this week prior to the premiere, Strictly was on before and X-Factor had only started 5 minutes earlier.

But who knows how viewing habits have changed with DVR devices and iPlayer catch-up, surely consolidated figures for the premiere and ratings in the coming weeks will be more insightful.
