☛ #010,011,012 are from the fabulous BBC film The Naked Civil Servant (1975) about famous gay writer and raconteur Quentin Crisp (1908-1999). John Hurt received an Emmy and a BAFTA for his outstanding and powerful performance. The quote in icon #012 is an original Quentin Crisp quote and it's used in the film.
☛ #013,014 are from the ITV sequel An Englishman in New York (2009) in which John Hurt reprised his role of Quentin Crisp.
☛ #015 is from the first Harry Potter movie Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone in which John Hurt played wand maker Mr. Ollivander. The phrase Potter needs a wand was coined by Bradley James in the T4 interview.
I had ridiculous amounts of fun making these icons. Not only that I watched two superb films about a very interesting and controversial gay icon, I also took the time to read a bit about John Hurt himself, the man who 'speaks life into the slashdragon'.
What an interesting career, what a marvelous actor. Needless to say that John Hurt - like the most adorable Richard Wilson - is the second man in his seventies I fell in love with. Hopelessly. ♥
