"This place isn't like I thought it'd be," Jonghyun says, that night after the concert in Jersey. They're on the balcony of their hotel suite in Manhattan, and he's got a lit cigarette from God knows where balanced in between his fingers. It's October, but not so cold in the city that the breath from Jinki's mouth is coming out in white puffs yet, just biting enough that there are goose bumps on his arms in his thin shirt.

Jinki shoves his hands into the pockets of his jeans. "How'd you think it'd be?" he asks, indulging him.

Jonghyun shrugs. He leans forward against the railing and peers down at the people hurrying by fifteen stories below, like ants on the pavement. "It's like, you think about something and you have this romanticized version of it in your head, and when you finally go there or-" he glances over, taking a long drag, "or meet them, it's-"

"Disappointing?"

"No," he says, shaking his head. "Just-different. Stifling." He offers Jinki the cigarette. Jinki leans over and obligingly sucks in, his bottom lip brushing against Jonghyun's thumb. He grimaces at the taste.

"We haven't even really seen the place," Jinki points out, exhaling smoke. "Maybe you should reserve your judgment. We'll be back in-what, two weeks? Madison Square Garden? We can do touristy things after that, if you want."

Jonghyun puts the remains of the cigarette out on the railing. "I just didn't want it to be like this, you know? I wanted to come here for me." Not for work is the unspoken clause, here-not after the exhausting marathon of cities they've been trooping through all month, and Jinki can see the line of tension in the set of his shoulders, the frustration crinkling his brow.

"Yeah," Jinki says. "I know."

"I've always wanted to take one of these," Jinki says two weeks later, grinning out the window as the streets zoom past. They're all crammed in a New York City taxicab, Minho up front because he'd edged his way in first, citing the terrible burden of longer legs. The rest of them are squeezed in the back like four peas in a pod far too small for them, a wild tangle of limbs. He's surprised the driver even let them in like this, five foreign boys on a joyride from hell.

Jonghyun scrunches his nose and meets Jinki's gaze, eyes smiling. "Really?" Kibum says darkly, shifting against the far door and narrowly avoiding Taemin's flailing elbow when they round a sharp corner. "I can't imagine why."
