I was just laughing at this post when I remembered a forward I received when I was overseas, actually, so it was all the more funnier to share with my Australian companians.

So, i was skimming my friends list earlier and found this post. Some of the cliches reminded me about a jokey email my dad once sent me. What do you think are some of the funnier/most widespread cliches or in-jokes about Aussies?

(I'm sending care packages to various people in America shortly, and would like to write a note to each of them either debunking/affirming some cliches or explaining something else about the Great Southern Convict Land.)

I live in an area of the United States (the Pacific Northwest) where we have a fair lot of spiders, due to the large number of forested areas here. I run across at least one spider a day, if not more. I know it's a cliche that we have kangaroos hopping down the streets, but here in Canberra we kind of do. I live somewhere in the middle of Canberra and we have kangaroos hopping across the front lawn at night. I still get a thrill whenever I see them though.
