I've just finished this urban fantasy, as recommended by Sarah Wroot and it's pretty fun stuff. A bit like the Dresden Files but English, somewhere between Neil Gaiman and Mike Carey's Felix Castor books (in which magic gets more out into the open and changes the political scene in a way I didn't much care for).
