~~~***~~~
Reita was sitting outside of the principal’s office, his face not only pale but grey from exhaustion and stress.
One week had passed since Uruha’s disappearance. One week without sleep. One week without hope. It was all invain - the police who had been unable to find Ruki didn’t know where to look anymore.
The blonde didn’t know what to do anymore; he had called every single person he knew Uruha knew and all his research hadn’t brought him even a single step closer to the solution.
Finally he was called and so he entered the principal’s office for the first time. Surprisingly enough it was completely light in here, everything looked new and modern; such a hard contrast to the ancient surroundings he was used to.
The principal was a tall man who had probably been very handsome once. Or he still was. The man was well over fifty, but he was still radiating a sense of strength and dominance similiar to ... Ruki’s.
He didn’t like the man, Reita decided instantly.
“Please take a seat, Reita-kun.“ The principal gestured towards the chair in front of his desk.
The boy did as he was told to, staring at the older man nervously. What was he supposed to do here anyway? It wasn’t like he hadn’t told the police everything he knew (or rather what he wanted them to know) so why was this necessary?
“First of all - I’m really sorry for what happened to you at this fine institute in such a short time.“ The principal shook his head sadly. “Please believe me that this is not normal here. Well, probably you’re wondering why I wanted to talk to you.“
“Actually I do.“ Reita didn’t feel comfortable about this man; he seemed to be the manifestation of all the odd things going on in this house.
“Well, I do not know how to begin with this, but probably you heard some of the stories the boys are telling around here as well.“
The man seemed to know how to begin with this very well, Reita thought.
“No, I don’t. What would they be telling?“
“Oh, nevermind. Those are only stupid stories anyway. You may leave.“
The last sentence had been an order, packed in polite words. Reita was only too happy to leave despite the fact that he was craving for answers. He would find them. And he already knew the person who he would get them from.
~~~***~~~

Kai was out smoking when Reita finally got a hold of him.

“We have to talk. C’mon.“ He dragged the other towards the woods; he was now sharing Uruha’s fear when it came to discussing important matters concerning the school.

Finally they arrived at a clearing and Reita stopped. “Something’s going on in this school,“ he stated bluntly. “And I have a feeling that you know what it is.“

Kai smiled at the other nervously. “It’s nothing ... only stories.“

Reita suddenly noticed that the other was scared. That was the thing which was so odd about the boys in this school! It was so obvious and yet it had taken him so long to realise it.

“Kai, please. I need to know about everything. Something’s not right about this place and you know it as well as I do. We could stop this, you know?“

Kai’s smile was bitter now, no longer able to betray his true thoughts. “End this? Reita, you can’t end this. You can’t and I can’t. You’ll be gone in three months. I’ll have to stay here for three more years. Do you honestly think I’d do anything stupid now and make matters worse? Forget about it.“

Before Reita could stop him he was already heading back towards the school building.

The blonde sighed. Now there was only one person left he could ask. Only one. And this person would probably be unable to answer any of his questions.

~~~***~~~
Reita was now quite familiar with the building since he had spent most of the last week looking for Uruha.
He hadn’t found the blonde, but he now knew some important things about the place in general.
Ms Takeda was living in a small room in the first floor while Tomasu’s room was in the cellar, close to the kitchens.
The tall man spent most of his free time in this room and since his help was only needed when it came to carrying heavy things he nearly always had free time.
The blonde knocked on the door and entered it without waiting for a reply.
Tomasu was sitting on his bed, a box on his lap, which he quickly stuffed under the bed when he saw who had entered his room.
Reita was a bit surprised: he had expected some dark, cold hole, but Tomasu’s room was light, tidy and even cosy with a large bed and a small desk with piles of photos on it.
“Hello, Tomasu,“ he greeted the other, smiling. “What a nice room you have.“
“What does the young master want?“ Tomasu replied uncertainly.
“Tomasu ... since when have you been working in this school?“
The tall man scratched the back of his head, seemingly deep in thought. Finally he raised both of his hands, all ten fingers stretched. He repeated the gesture; twenty years then.
“That’s a long time. Surely you know everything about this school.“ Reita smiled again.
Tomasu was grinning happily. “Yes, yes. Would the young master like to know about secret hallways or ways to sneak out of the school? Or would the young master like some cigarettes?“
Reita could know understand Uruha better. Tomasu really was harmless and his remarks about the man had been mean and pointless. “No, no, thanks. But there’s something else I would like to know.“ He paused, trying to gather as much confidence as possible before he continued. “Why are the boys so scared?“
Tomasu’s eyes clouded over. “Young master leave now. NOW!“
Reita wasn’t scared of the other, but he knew that it was better to leave him alone now. He nodded and bowed slightly, before leaving the room.
One week later most of the boys travelled back home due to all the events which had taken place earlier. Reita, however, stayed. He had nowhere to go to anyway since his parents had gone to Europe.
Uruha’s mother had remained in Tokyo, but the blonde didn’t want to stay with her either. He had to find Uruha.
He had to.
It was no longer a question of wanting to do it, but a necessity if he didn’t want to lose his mind.
The days were long, grey and his search fruitless.
He didn’t know how close he was to his goal ...
