About Mardi Gras...

Sorry if these questions are stupid, but after living here for 5 months and being unable to find any gay/bi women, I've got a couple of questions about Mardi Gras...

1. I know it's technically for both gay men and women, but is there actually also women participating in the events or is it just majorly men? If women also participate then what are ( Read more... )

women do participate in events, but usually the ones specifically pitched to girls. There are 'after parties' and similar. Best way to find out about the girl events is to pick up a copy of LOTL and see what is being advertised in there.

as for 2. I believe that's if you want to get a group together and enter the parade as a 'float'

1. Yes, loads of women participate on all levels.
Events not to miss are obviously the launch, fair day and the parade, but for women only or mostly female events, pick up the festival guide.

2. You have to sign up, but $100 is bollocks. That is (I believe) a voluntary contribution for floats from the community. Commercial floats have to pay more. If you find a walking group, they usually let you in free.
