It's official--Miss Canada has been forced to step down because of a little-known Miss Universe pageant rule that states all contests must be "born female".

She started hormone therapy before puberty (and yay for the doctors who are doing that, because it makes transition SOOOO much easier), and had her full conversion surgery at the age of nineteen

Note the later date on this article; the pageant later stepped back and said that they would allow her to compete "provided she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions". While there's still certainly room for her to be forced out of competition with this wording, they have at least stepped away from "born female" as their requirement.

It's good they recognize we live in a more fluid world. One wonders, though, if one really stretches out that ruling, and looks at it...what else wouldn't be allowed?

Breast augmentation? That's not "natural", either. Corrective surgery for a harelip? Contacts that tint the eyes? Hells, eye surgery...I mean, how "perfect" do beauty contestants have to be, anyway?
