I think it had something to do with finding out he's also from a video game... it also triggered something else but I'm not sure what.

I didn't ask too much because I was worried it would make him worse.

It was Tales of Rebirth. I found out that my future self is in Tales of Destiny 2... if I find the first game, I'm probably in it.
