The X-Files Episode 12x07: Chekhov's Gun

I've finally knuckled down and finished my latest fan fiction, dealing with the fate of the Cigarette Smoking Man after "My Struggle IV"; it's partially a homage to Hitchcock's "Lifeboat", and I manage to kill several characters too, for once.

I had fun writing this, and feel reasonably proud of it.

I've thought of a short scene to add near the start, I just need to write it.

New text - appears just before the first scene and when Mulder and Scully appear first.

The man loitering near the Senate building clutched his gun tightly, and quickly hid it in his coat pocket.

There were lots of security around the building, he needed to be careful. He had come there for one purpose only.

It was a cold Autumn day, but there were a lot of people loitering around, chatting to each other. Many were tourists out to see the sights, and it would be easy for him to blend in with the crowd.

He would have to bide his time; he would probably only get one chance.

Its a weird thing that makes sense when you get to the end - I thought I'd milk the Chekhov's gun thing for all its worth.

I fixed a continuity error - I changed the text to "returning to the Senate".

I thought about maybe having the incident take place outside the White House, but then realised that the place would probably have way too much security for an assassination attempt to take place.
