The Friday Five: Sliding Doors

Jul 03, 2021 09:37

Belated thefridayfive post; looks like it's about wanting to change the past, as I mentioned the other day, that can be dangerous:

1) What one event from your lifetime would you change if you could, and why?

Too many things, I think it would involve spending more time with friends. Maybe I'd just stop myself snapping at that lad at work last year; I still have bad flashbacks of that. I'd probably take the stairs instead that lunchtime, thus avoiding the incident that led to me getting into trouble.

2) If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be and how old would your younger self be when they got it? Do you think your younger self would listen?

I'd probably say, make sure you spend time with friends, and also spend time with family. To be honest, if my younger self saw my older self walking towards him, he'd probably get up and move away, unless I approached him when he was with others.

As for age - I don't know, university age maybe, or late twenties.

3) If you could have a conversation with the historical figure of your choosing, whom would you pick and why? What would you talk about? (You can't give them advice, though - they'll think it was all a very strange dream!)

I think it would almost certainly be Jesus, I'd just talk about what I can do to get into Heaven.

4) There are many things that we've lost from the past -- how to make Roman concrete, countless episodes of Dr. Who, most of the plays about Oedipus, my favorite stuffed animal . . . . What one item or secret would you retrieve if you had the power to do so?

My first thought was the hanging gardens of babylon, but I think that could be easily recreated. How about the Colossus of Rhodes? It would make a good tourist attraction - it would have to be protected from graffiti though, and birds.

Looks like someone got the same idea.

5) What would you like to say to people in the future?

Plenty of things - cancel Big Brother, cancel Love Island, look after the environment.

work, future, history, jesus, christian, recycling, nature, the friday five, television, friends, life
