All right. With the Crucible, the Gate would pull people on board from all sorts of universes, much like it is this time. The difference is that the ship was caught in a time loop, owing to the fact that every three months, the ship would hit a black hole, killing everyone on board. The ship was lost in time like that for years, but for people brought in by the Gate, the longest anyone was there was one year. At the end of that year we managed to break the cycle.
