get some 600-800 grit sandpaper & you can make that smooth enough to wear. sand it under running water.

yep. for actually sanding down flares i don't suggest it, but for taking off sharp points, sure you can do this.

hah! Thanks for this - I was just going to make a request post asking for new plugs because I found a sharp spot on my only glass plugs that was hurting my ear every time I took them out - and it took me this long to realize it was the plugs. you just saved me some $$$$$$$$$
