Holidays and Ender and Reading, oh my!

Dec 30, 2011 15:53

I can't even begin to say how wonderful it has been to NOT have to work any holidays after doing so for so many, many years. Yes, I experienced major holiday preparation fail because I didn't take any time off and I am (still!) unaccustomed to working the 5 day work week and continue to experience ongoing time management fail.

What can I say? I ( Read more... )

movies, holiday, books

Watership Down is wonderful!

That's what I keep hearing..LOL Yes, it is hard to read when you are always thinking of something else you should be doing.

And Happy (late) New Year to you, too! I hope you have a wonderful year ahead of you!

Ooh, Harrison Ford as Graff - I can totally see that. And I agree with you about the ages of the kids. Reminds me that in my children's lit class the textbook rec'ed Ender's Game as a good Elem (K-5) level book, and as I was doing a presentation on that chapter (Sci-Fi/Fantasy, ya'know I jumped on that one) I pointed out that it was not for that age group. The only thing I can figure is the author of the text saw the ages of the protags and just figured it was aimed at that age (!).

Glad you're getting some good reading time in!

Yeah, I can totally see it, too.

When you see that sort of thing you just know that the person writing it has never actually read the book.

I'm not sure how many books Richard Adams actually wrote but I've read three: Watership Down, The Plague Dogs and Traveller. It's been many years but I can tell you that they were well written and in the case of Watership Down somewhat disturbing, in the same way as George Orwell's Animal Farm. I hope you will give it a try as I know how much you enjoy reading and this is definitely a different kind of story.

As for time management.... I have plenty of time and yet I'm still an unpublished author. If there is any new year's resolution to be made it is to complete a novel. Published or not.

I'm glad you guys had a good Christmas!

I know that there is more to the stories but I tend to be thrown out of a story if there are talking animals. Weird, I know. (Since I can buy alien life-forms and what not)

I know you can do it! (Yes, it that sounds like cliched encouragement but I do believe it!)
