WHO: Orihime Inoue, NPC's played by Sanji
WHERE: Cuspidora Base, The Grand Line
WHEN: A looooooong time ago, shortly after Sanji's jailbreak
WHAT: Orihime returns to the scene of the crime to offer her apologies to the marines, and try to undo some of the damage that was done. She gets learned a lesson.
Orihime can't pretend that she isn't just a *little* nervous about returning to this place. But as the boat docks, and she lays down the oars to step onto the shore, her anxiety is forgotten when she sees just how much damage was done to the front of the base. Perhaps... Perhaps she should have emphasized 'distraction' a little more, as well as 'no collateral damage.' And why was the little set of forest over there so ripped up and broken? She's pretty sure Ifrit didn't do that. Maybe the woman riding the spider? That definitely wasn't part of the plan.
Truth be told, she didn't feel that guilty when she had her discussion with Lord Vetinari and Superman, despite their obvious disapproval of her and her jailbreak. They saved Sanji's life, an innocent man spared, so she harbored no regrets. She does, however, feel badly for causing so much trouble for people who didn't really know any better. They were just doing their jobs, and she's sure that they've taken down a lot of pirates that DID deserve their fate.
Alone, and dressed in her best skirt and blouse, Orihime approaches the gates, no doubt guarded. Her stomach flutters anxiously, and she keeps her hands tightly knotted in the sides of her skirt to quell the urge to press her fingers against her belly. "Anou... Could I speak to the marine in charge here?" she offers a smile to the men posted there. "I'd like to apologize for something."
There's quite a lot of damage that needs to be repaired at the base. Though Nao's spider did a lot of damage in front of the base and to a couple of the buildings, Ifrit did its part in the forest where it was summoned, not to mention a whole collapsed wall on the right side of the base. It'll take some time before this base is up and running, but luckily the Marines have lots of outposts in the meantime.
There are guards posted at the gate, but security isn't too much of a concern because of the state of the base itself. There's nothing worth taking here and the prisoner is gone. So when a visitor comes who isn't a Marine, the men on guard are pretty surprised. Not to mention happy to see it's a cute girl. Finally one picks up his tongue long enough to step forward. "What business do you have with the Captain?"
Orihime blinks. She...wants to apologize for something! Maybe it was too vague. "Ah...well... I'm from the IPA, actually," she grins sheepishly with a tilt of the head. "I heard that you guys wanted information and aid concerning the...the jailbreak incident." Yeah, that's a good phrase for it. She's worried, though. If it's that spitting guy, he'll probably throw her in the brink. Or worse, the drink! (And she's quite proud of herself for knowing that little term for 'the ocean'.) "May I see him, please?"
The two marines look surprised, but then nod and turn to escort Orihime in to the base. Not much to be seen right now but there are still some buildings, including the main office standing. The doors are opened so they can walk down a tiled hall to the back where offices reside. "This girl is here to see the Captain." The marine announces to two others who are guarding a large office door. They nod and open the doors to let Orihime inside. "Go on in."
The room isn't brightly lit, the only light coming from the shades which are only partly opened. There's a large desk in the back and the marine logo is painted on the tile floor of the room in one large picture before the desk. A single chair sits across the desk for Orihime to take. The chair is turned away to face the window rather than the entrance and there's a trail of smoke rising from behind the leather recliner. Orihime isn't addressed yet. Perhaps the Captain doesn't care for visitors!
"Thank you very much!" she beams at the guards, her sunny expression belying the tighter twisting in her stomach. It's hard to keep her shoulders erect with the ever-increasing weight of guilt pressing them down. She steps up to the chair, but doesn't sit. Instead, she loosely wraps her fingers around the chair's back and squelches the impulse to duck down and hide behind it. She's probably going to get yelled at. Just part of the consequences, she supposes.
Swallowing hard, Orihime summons up her courage, and speaks. "My name is Orihime Inoue. I'm from the IPA, and I've come to apologize for what I've done here." She bows her head deeply. "If there are injured, I'd like to heal them, at the very least. I want to make every possible amends, please, sir."
As Orihime says those words there's no response at first from the Captain, who continues to stare out the window and remain hidden behind the desk chair. But that last part she says is rather interesting. "What you've done?" So Orihime was one of those that attacked the base. The chair swivels around and sitting in it is not the large spitting Commander from the raid, but a stunning woman with long pink hair smoking a cigarette. Gloved hands are laced together in front of her. "You admit to aiding the escape of a wanted criminal. What makes you think you won't be arrested instead? Hina, curious." Orihime must have some guts to show up here and confess without expecting to be punished!
Orihime smiles a bit, and her surprise is short-lived at the sight. "Oh, you're a girl!" she chirps pleasantly. As if they weren't just discussing something far more grave and serious. "And I don't mind if I'm arrested, buuuut I probably wouldn't stay around for very long." She smiles, but has the good grace to look apologetic about it at least. "There's too much to do right now, but after our world is safe and you still want me to be in jail, I'd be happy to come back for a while!" ...Buh? She seems to mean it, too! "See... I guess someone else wanted to save Sanji-kun too, and we weren't planning on that. So I think some people got hurt." They were mentioned in the report, weren't they? "I'm sorry for the trouble I caused. But, well...he's my friend, and a good person. I didn't want him to die," she quickly shakes her head.
Hina isn't entirely sure how to take her words. They sound sort of arrogant, despite the smile on her face. They wouldn't be able to hold her? What does she thinks this is! They are marines, after all, and Hina has a special ability for caging people. "Hina, annoyed." The pink haired woman directly frowns at the chipper young girl. A gloved hand taps her fingers against the desk table. "And you don't even come from this world." A sigh and the woman lifts her fingers to her forehead. Oh yes, there's a headache coming on. As if she doesn't have enough to do around here! No doubt keeping this girl prisoner would just result in more people from her world coming to fetch her. "You can leave. Hina, leave." But she's getting off easy!
"....." Orihime gazes at the woman silently for a moment. She didn't really want to get off easy. Not /that/ easy. It does nothing for her feelings of guilt. She's far more upset that people got hurt, instead of getting caught. "Could I attend to the people that got hurt first, please? I really do feel bad about that," she replies quietly. "And I'm sorry I annoyed you, I didn't mean to do that either! Anou...does your head hurt?" If it does, she can fix it! She does seem awfully eager to repair what she can. "I have some money, too, to help with the repairs, if you like."
The hand against her forehead slams down onto the desktop loudly. Oh no, Orihime is not getting off easy! Hina will vent her frustration on this child! "I understand that Straw Hat is your friend. But do you think you can do this damage and then come back and show us your charity? Hina, annoyed." The woman stands from her chair, proving to be very tall and thin, then walks around the exterior of the desk to stand before Orihime and look down at her. "Do you see what this means?" She turns to show Orihime her back, where the kanji for JUSTICE is emblazoned with pride, then turns around to face the girl again. "Can you heal their morale? In this world pirates are dangerous people. When we start favoring one, they turn into shichibukai, and end up getting away with everything." Like Smoker, she has certain feelings about those people too. No doubt he's had his influence on her over the years, even if she wishes he would not cause such a rucus with the world government and listen now and again.
Orihime visibly jumps, her eyes wide at the sudden noise. Yikes! Still, she's used to getting yelled at, so she holds still and allows it. Doesn't stop her from looking wildly startled, though. "Eeeeeeee...?" She blinks at the kanji, nodding dumbly, before her gaze returns to Hina. "I... I know they're bad...most of them... But Sanji isn't a bad pirate, he's helped lots of people! He never hurt anyone...that didn't deserve it, anyway," she reflects thoughtfully. Then she snaps back to attention, realizing that probably isn't doing anything to soothe Hina's irritation. "But I'm sorry for hurting morale, very sorry! And if you really want to jail me, okay, I'll do it!" She salutes...and wonders if that was really the right thing to do. Her hand lowers, and Orihime glances guiltily away at the floor. "It's just...I do respect justice. I do. But I've seen some bad things happen to good people recently because no one questioned it...no one realized what was really happening, or why." Rukia... Rukia almost died for 'justice,' thanks to Aizen's manipulation. And her encounter at the IPA office has left her severely disillusioned to the IPA's real goals and motivations. "I'm sorry if that has hurt your pride. It wasn't my intention." She bows low at the waist.
Hina eyes Orihime critically. She does know that sometimes those working for justice don't do the right thing. But she's passionate about what she does and she loves being a marine. A lot of the guys out there who lost to the allies of a Straw Hat also feel the same way. "And the next time your friend gets in trouble, you'll just come back and insult us again. Hina, insulted." But the woman will show a little mercy this time and let Orihime make up for her mistake, even if she doesn't think it's adequate enough for what was done. "This way. Hina, follow." The woman turns and strides toward the doors which are pushed open. The guards immediately snap to attention as Hina is leading Orihime out of the office building.

"Yes, ma'am," Orihime replies, obediently moving to trot behind the marine at a respectful distance...trying not to get too distracted by the way the 'justice' kanji flutters and ripples with the movements of the white cape. It's mesmerizing! Like a proud flag, and... Oh, hey, some guards. Orihime blinks, lifting her head, then beams at them. At least they don't /look/ too insulted, but then again, they probably don't know Orihime was the one running around the base dressed like Sanji. Still, she wonders where they're going. Will there be a jail cell after all? Or maybe the guards will regain their pride by throwing rotten vegetables at her? She's heard that's usually how people cheer themselves up after seeing bad plays. She can tolerate that! Heck, they can throw rotten eggs, she'll let them do that too, and she won't even put up her shield! (She doesn't think Hinagiku, Baigon, and Lily would appreciate it, besides.)
Luckily it doesn't look as if Orihime is being escorted to the jail cell, since they're heading out the main doors of the building now and into the sunlight. Hina continues to stride across the yard, and just when Orihime thinks she might be kicked out of the base, the woman turns to walk toward the clinic building. Guess she's going to let Orihime help out after all! Though she'll be keeping an eye on the girl. The doors are opened by another guard so they can both enter. Luckily most injuries are minor or moderate, nothing serious or life threatening for the marines who were stationed at the base during the attack.
Orihime blinks in surprise when she steps through the door. Then it's okay...? She looks up at Hina, then flashes a small, grateful smile and another polite bow. "I'll try to be fast." They'll need to be up and ready in case they have to go up against any really bad pirates, that's for sure! Orihime quickens her steps as she moves to the first bed, eagerly dispatching Shun'ou and Ayame to form the golden dome shield over the marine's bed...and his neighbor's, as well. If the beds are really close together, she can probably encompass a third. Orihime doesn't think she recognizes this man as someone she ran into, but just the same, she offers him an apologetic grin. "Sorry about before." He probably has no idea what she means, but just the same, it's better than just looming over him until he gets better; she thinks it's a safe bet that he can't see the shield.
At a rate of healing that many at a time it likely won't take long for Orihime to finish. When the girl enters Hina stands behind her and crosses her arms over her chest while still holding her cigarette between her lips. To Hina and the Marines it doesn't look as if anything special is happening. The men resting in the hospital beds just look at the girl with confusion. What's she apologizing for? Oh, she's probably a new nurse who is trying to liven their spirits! "It's okay." How can they not be nice to such a cute nurse? "Next time, we'll get those pirates for sure, so don't worry."
Orihime's face seems to light up at this. They're not angry? Not insulted? "That's /right/!" Orihime agrees enthusiastically. She clenches a fist and jerks her elbow down, the very picture of determination. "Who do they think they are?! Stealing from innocent people, raiding ships, trying to burn down the outhouse and the village... They make me so mad!" Because really, the pirates that AREN'T Sanji's crew are probably pretty vicious. "But you'll be there next time to show them who's boss, I'm sure of it. That'll teach them," she nods vigorously. "...I hope you feel better soon," she smiles, looking somewhat sheepish. "You're a very nice person, sir."
The very nice person is making eyes much similar to Sanji's trademark look. Though she might not even notice as excited as she is. *_* Wow, this is great! If such a nice girl would visit him in the hospital every time, he'd fight in more battles against pirates! Not that it can really be helped. And all the guys seem to agree with the way that marine is feeling. "Come cheer me up next!" "No, me! I'm really injured!" "I might lose a leg! Well not really..." Hina just shakes her head in the background. "Idiots. Hina, surrounded by idiots."
Orihime, meanwhile, is having a great time. Her heart swells with pride, happy that she's actually helping people and making them smile. She moves from bed to bed, the time lapse between dependent on how serious the wounds are and how long it takes Shun'ou and Ayame to heal them. Thanks to the mythril infused into her hairpins, her usual healing time is cut in half. All the practice in training and real use seems to help a great deal too.
As she chats with the marines, she occasionally begs for war stories, listening with wide-eyed fascination at the people they've fought. It's important to understand both sides of the story, she knows. And while she never really thought the marines were bad people in the first place, her respect for them and their profession deepens immensely. She was wrong to compare them to the Soul Society and their brand of justice. Generally, they look after their own: the dead. They don't always care about what happens to the living. But from what she can see, the marines really are determined to protect people, and they've worked hard to make it where they are today.
It's been a good lesson for her.
When she finishes, Orihime sways a little as she returns to Hina. None of the injuries were too difficult to heal, but prolonged use of her powers still leaves her a little tired. "Thanks, Hina-san," she smiles. "I learned a lot. Thank you very much."
Hina watches as Orihime talks to the other soldiers. Hm, maybe she is healing their morale after all. The woman smiles a little to herself as she waits for whatever magic Orihime is working to finish. When the girl returns the woman exhales some smoke from her cigarette and looks her over. She can tell Orihime is fatigued. At least she sounds respectful now too. Maybe Hina was overly harsh with her. After all, this girl isn't a marine for her to boss around. "You look tired." She notes as she turns, the marine coat fluttering behind her again. "Stay here awhile. Hina, rest."
Orihime's smile brightens, and she raises herself up. "Can I really? Yay!" she clasps her hands together. Wow, how lucky! She gets to sleep over at a marine base! This is the best world through the gates /ever/.
Were Orihime less trusting, she'd be wary about being imprisoned while she was asleep, or being 'taken care of' in the night. But she trusts these people, believes fully in their desire for justice and to protect the innocent villagers of the islands from harm. So, Orihime feels very safe here. She'll have to call Ling on the radio and tell him the good news. "Thank you very much, Hina-san!" Orihime waves after the woman...and pauses to stare at the cloak again. Juuuustiiiiiice...
Hina looks over her shoulder and nods. "Just stay out of trouble." She's sure her idiot recruits will be happy to have Orihime around and do whatever it is she wants anyway. The captain stops at the door and looks to the guard there. "See to it this girl is accomodated for the night in one of the spare rooms." The captain has work to do so it's not likely she'll be able to see to it Orihime is settled. The marines are more than capable of handling such an easy task.. if they can pick their tongues off the floor. "Hina, goodbye." Is said as the woman goes out the door, leaving Orihime with her new escort.
"Goodbye!" Orihime waves again, cheerfully. ...Wait, she gets to stay for the WHOLE NIGHT? Even MORE lucky! She's absolutely delighted with the way things turned out. Gosh, she really hopes none of the Straw Hats get captured again, she doesn't want to break in! Maybe next time there'll be another way, and she won't have to. She could negotiate, couldn't she? Or maybe raise money for bail, or barter her own services. There are probably a lot of people who have taken heavy injuries on the job, lost a finger, a leg... She could heal them all. These are her thoughts as she follows after her assigned guard, fingertips pressed together, her expression sunny and hopeful. "I can't believe I even get my own room...!" she murmurs excitedly to herself. What a nice place!
