They deleted my Rick/Shane story: "Defending Jericho's Trumpets". And banned me from posting till the 1st due to a curse in the summary.

To quote a comment I posted in a another com about it:

"I emailed them this afternoon. I was respectful, but I stood up for what I felt was a totally unnecessary reaction to a small infraction. (One of my stories had a curse in the summary and it got deleted, reviews and all. And I have been banned from posting till the 1st) I mentioned I have been a member since 2007 with a spotless record till now and asked them to at least consider letting me fix the damn issue. Rather then remove it like they did.

I am not going to mince words here. I think what they did was a total dick move. It was an honest mistake (like so many others) and this issues certainly doesn't deserve the repercussions we are all suffering. Honestly I am still fuming and from what I can tell all of fandom is in an absolutely uproar.

Smooth move ff.net. Like you really need more negative publicity. "

Holy wow, Batman. I didn't even know one couldn't post lower-level swears in summaries - besides, if the summery itself was able to be submitted and used, then, really, that's FF.net's bad. I know a few sites that ban certain words from the comment and summary boxes; it's not that complicated of JAVA/html script, FF has no excuse. What's furthermore is that I'm pretty sure your "Jericho" is in an upper level maturity rating, so... the people able to see it are the ones who actively chose to do so and they should be able to bloody well stand a few bombs being dropped, in the summary or otherwise ( ... )

Darling, we need to have an icecream fest over the Internets because I am totally bummed about this. Angry, bummed, and on the warpath.

I mean, it is just GONE. The story, the reviews, even my ability to post till the first... ARGH!

I understand the issue with the curse in the summary. If I had noticed I would have changed it. It Is the manner of which they dealt with this that pisses me the HELL off. And EVERYONE is pissed. I have never seen LJ/Tumblr/and the internet at large in such an uproar.

*grouchy panda mode engaged*

That totally bites, as much because I'm sure it's not consistent policing from them. :(

Totally. I know people are especially peeved because plagiarists and etc aren't be targeted. Yet something as simple as accidental swear word merits deletion and a temporary ban hammer.

That is absolute shit. Why can't they warn first? I get why they don't like that sort of stuff in the titles and summaries, but they've let it go for quite a long time and now they're taking action? Wow. I'm actually surprised I haven't seen anything relating to the FFN purge go by on my tumblr dash. It's too bad that little infractions like this are inciting such harsh punishments, while ignoring the more prevalent issue of plagiarism and 'non-stories'.

(Tumblr isn't that complicated. My main issue is finding people to actually follow.)

Edit: I'm confused. I just checked FF.Net because I clicked the link for Jericho's Trumpets, and....it's still up?

Long story short, I am going to post about it tomorrow. But I caved in and emailed them again after hearing of a few success stories with people emailing and getting their stories undeleted.

I stressed in the second email how I have not be contacted by the mods or in reviews, whether by pm or email, etc that there was an issue, and if I had seen it I would have certainly deleted it.

4 minutes later I got a response. They reinstated it on the condition I edit out the curse word. *pew*

I still have a ban till the 1st. But the story is intact.

THANK. JEEBUS.

Honestly they have really stepped in it this time. The ffnet and fanfiction tag on tumblr is insane. LJ is insane. This is huge, widespread...

And so very, very stupid....

That's good to hear. To just delete an entire story because of a teeny tiny curse word...wow. At least they gave you the chance to fix it. Also, they only gave you a tiny ban, which could definitely be worse. They could've banned you for a month or more, rather than just two days.

Out of curiosity, what was the word they got you on?

I was just about to check the Tumblr tag, but, oh yeah, LJ is definitely having words. Fail-fandomanon has pretty much exploded on the last page for the 22nd-29th (last week's) post.

The fact that they've increased the character limit for summaries is a small consolation.

I posted a new journal entry about it. But it was the eff word. So yeah, I see the issue, I just don't agree with their methods.

Yeah, a ban of a few days is manageable. I shudder at the thought of any longer..

I've been hearing that they are deleting a metric butt-ton of stuff. Not sure what caused the sudden house cleaning, but it seems that a lot of people are getting hit.

Yeah, the newest rumor I have heard on tumblr is they are targeting oc stories. I dunno if that is true, either way I wont have anything to worry about.

I heard that someone did a summary of the top 20 fandoms and estimated that over 7000 stories were lost in them alone.

FFNET = fail. No one is happy with those people right now. No one...
