Yeah..my bullshit meter hit 12 when I saw that last night. I really really do not see it happening. It's got rumor written all over it. I love and adore Johnny Depp and would be all HOMG Awesome.. but RTD.. Oh hell no.
Even Still Johnny Depp is WAY too busy. According to IMDB he's got 14 movies in developement and another 4 in production. None of them this one. He's currently in hawaii filming PoTC 4.
Meh. To be honest, I can't stand Johnny Depp so...yeah, don't want to see him as the Doctor. Didn't see the Alice in Wonderland remake or the Willy Wonka one because of him. *shrugs* Sorry, just my opinion.
In the case of the Doctor, just for the pure history of it, the role should be played by a British actor. I would really like to see Paul McGann in the part and for the movie to cover the Time War. But since it's RTD at the helm, we'll see more emo!Doctor pinning for Rose.
I've liked Johnny Depp since Edward Scissorhands, so ... :) I loved his Willy Wonks. But.. to each his own. :)
I do agree the doctor should be played by a British actor and RTD should not be near it... but I honestly don't see this actually happening. There HAS been talk of a WHO movie.. but there's been talk of that for years... so ... don't really hold your breath. :)
Yep, that's for sure. We all have likes and dislikes. :) *hugs you*
I think now with the popularity and a larger fanbase behind it, a Who movie is more likely to happen now and will be more successful than the FOX movie. And with RTD behind it, a studio may feel better about it. They know what he did with DW, so they'll see $$$$ in their eyes.
I am really hoping hard that this is yet another baseless rumour because otherwise I'll scream. RTD should keep his nasty grubby hands OFF my Who now it's in Moffat's talented hands.
I like Depp and he's played British characters before and for other directors besides Tim Burton, so I don't have an issue with him being a Time Lord. But no, not the Doctor. You don't want a huge name for the Doctor any way. The audience draw isn't the actor; it's the CHARACTER.
As for the rest, could someone give RTD a tranquilizer dart that doesn't wear off for a few hundred years? The only other alternative is to point to X-Files and try to explain how cult favorite TV shows (ESPECIALLY in the science fiction genre ghetto) don't make it successfully to the big screen, but I don't think it will work. The Avengers for how a cult British TV show fairs in Hollywood, *sigh.*
Ugh, why why why. But then, I think it's like the normal Hollywood rumor - Depp is hot commodity, so he's linked with it. Just like RDJ is being linked to just about anything interesting.
Also... I prefer your idea. If they're gonna make a movie, make it about the Time War and use Eight and Nine. Atleast Eccleston's big name for them..

That must have been the look on my face.
Sometimes, I wonder if they release these 'rumors' as a way of testing public response.
That he is...
