Well...

May 22, 2010 23:48

I just did some quick research on 'How to write a prophecy' and medieval torture and devices...

...because when I write, I like to try and make things as accurate as I can.

o.O

And now I'm off to bed and hopefully, I won't have dreams about what I just read. :|

On another note:

Doctor Who is going to kill me this season!

tv: doctor who, writing

I have done some odd ball research because I am the same way. I tend to research things to the death.. and only use bits. I love research. Sometimes its my favorite part of writing. :)

I have actually done some research into the medieval torture and such.. mostly the Burning Times.. for a past lives story. Scary stuff what they did to those women (and men)

Research is fun and I wish more people would do it because it shows in their stories.

With my Tin Man stories, I still research and then adapt it to the Outer Zone. Since the O.Z. is a universe that split from ours, I still want it to be similar, but also somewhat different. Did that make sense? I haven't had a full cup of coffee yet. ;)

It was freaking me out last night. I was researching 'flaying' since that is popular with the Eastern Guild (in my 'verse, they're Munchkins - they got a little ornery after a while). I do have one of my characters getting whipped, which was a common practice in our prisons even in the early 1900's. Along with 'flaying', I was researching whipping posts as well.

I'm happy to announce that I had no dreams. I did dream about Garrett, though.

I love doing research for my fics, I learn so many different things. I once did a fic about torture and I had some people very upset at me for being so graphic. But I had someone else say that's why they call it 'torture', it's not supposed to be pleasant and I had to be graphic in order to capture the emotional impact of what was happening to the characters. It wasn't easy for me to write.

I was looking for pendants not to long ago. I wanted Az to give something to Garrett, but decided to wait on that.

Yeah, had a great moment of research fun with Dragons and Ninjas because I wanted something like Chinese water torture but my antagonists were descended from Japanese slippers. Turns out waterboarding was used a lot WWII-era, which fit in brilliantly.

And I thought more people were going to be upset at that chapter than how it turned out. :p
