I wanted a little sister until I realized I'd have a share a room so I decided I wanted a little brother. I got another little brother. I'd give him away freely.
My mum thinks I would get along better with him if he was a girl... somehow I don't think I would get along with sharing a room with a child (male or female) 11 years younger... but that's just me. She thinks this because I get along so well with my much younger 3rd cousin Ashley. I love my cousin but she wears me out in an hour, she's a whirlwind.
The joke I used to have was my parents asked me wanted I wanted when I was three/four. I told them a horse. I ended up with a little sister (and a toy horse for Christmas, yeah that was a let down despite how much fun it was). Fast forward a few decades and Mom moaning the amount of money spent on that sibling--piano lessons, piano, violin lessons, violin, flute for band, various school expenses, she was in the hospital the most as a child, going off the Louisiana School, etc. My response: "When you look at it that way, the horse would have been cheaper."
I had to let that one go 'cause she has taken the whole grandkid thing off my shoulders.

Yeah, my son was all excited when mini-me was born and then a few years later, he wished she had been a boy.
