The Next Victims

Garret stepped off the service elevator and helped the dieners wheel the two bodies into the crypt. A double homicide was not an uncommon occurrence, but this one was strange. The bodies had been posed together as though sleeping and they had not been killed where they were found ( Read more... )

As Nigel entered the crypt, he stopped suddenly and grew pale. Slowly he moved toward the two bodies and looked at the woman's face. Carefully he reached out and almost touched the face.

"I...." He took a deep breath as he suddenly realized it was not who he first thought of. "Dr. Macy, that looks like Jordan....and...." he paused, obviously shakened. "That almost looks like you. What is going on?" He stared at Macy totally confused.

Garret stepped over and looked down at the man, paling when he saw that Nigel was right. He was not only the same approximate height and weight, but his head had been partially shaved to mimic Garret's hairline. With the exception of aa area of excised skin near his right eye, the man could be mistaken for a family member.

"What the hell?" Garret exclaimed. "I want these two in trace now and IDs as soon as possible. I'm going to call Jordan." He turned and left the room headed for his office.

Looking at the bodies once more Nigel took a deep breath and began wheeling the woman into the other room. He found himself staring at the way she was almost Jordan's twin. Fighting off a shiver he whispered gently.

"It's okay Luv, we'll take care of you. We'll find who did this and make them pay."

Garret unlocked his office door, his head spinning with what he'd seen. He turned and called to Emmy who was coming up the hall. "Emmy, tell Nigel to get the film in the camera developed as soon as possible. I want those crime scene photos on my desk before the end of the day." Emmy nodded and headed down the hall.

Garret walked over to his desk and went to pick up the file sitting there. In the center of the folder was a woman's ring. Garret raised an eyebrow and picked it up wondering whose it could be.

Garret grabbed to bottled waters on his way to the conference room. He knew Lily would be ready for a break after an hour of going over files and while she was drinking the water she would be grilling him for details in her usual fashion. He sometimes wondered if they shouldn't loan the grief counselor out to the police for interrogations, she could get anyone to talk. He'd only told her what pattern to look for and then hurried off to call Jordan and then Swann and Carver, so by now Lily would have worked up her curiosity to a sharp point and would be ready for answers.

He opened the door and set a bottled water in front of Lily, then sat down on the other side of the table and grabbed a file.

((ooc-Assuming Lily only knows about the method and findings on Shadow's first victim, since they haven't done the autopsies on the two most recent.))

Thanks Garret.

*Lily looked up digging through all the files and took the bottle, sitting up straight in her chair. She sighed and shook her head. She hadn't had much to go by, but from what she read so far, nothing seemed to stick out.*

There's nothing here. I've looked through at least thirty or forty files that might sound even remotely similar, but there's nothing.

Garret rubbed the back of his neck. He was getting one hell of a headache from this. "Have you come across any tokens left, jewelry taken from the victim and left elsewhere? Particularly cases the cops haven't solved yet."

*She shook her head.*

I'm trying. I mean, I've found robberies, but none of it has showed up anywhere, other than pawnshops.

*She wished she was more helpful. It was in these circumstances when her job didn't always feel so useful.*

Jordan got upstairs and went straight into Garret's office, visibly shaken.

Garret was just finishing cleaning up the finger print dust from his files when Jordan walked in. "Jordan, you could leave your phone on instead of on message...' He caught sight of her face and walked over to her. "Jordan, what's wrong?" He put an arm around her.

Jordan held out a plastic bag containing the watch. "This..." she said. "This was in my locked SUV when I went out to get into it. Sitting right there on the passenger seat. It wasn't there when I got home last night...or when I picked up the car when I left yesterday."

The color drained from Garret's face and he sat them both down on the couch. "I'll bet I know who this belongs to."
