I Guess Freedom is Selective, These Days

Nov 02, 2004 22:45

The ban on gay marriage just passed in Kentucky. 75% of voters opted to violate the civil and human rights of people they they don't even know, people who have never done anything wrong. I wish I had something to say. I feel physically ill ( Read more... )

*hugs back*

The talk of California seceding from the union is freakin' everywhere.
All I can say is take me with you.

It's not like they are going to ban gay marriage forever. It will be legal someday, you trust me.
Oh, I know. I'm prepared to fight, as well. Movements for social change have never had an easy road-- it's just depressing that there are so many bigots in our so-called 'modern age'.

it sounds like Ohio isn't the best place to be right now...
It never has been, but it's even worse now.. X_x
Welcome to Ohio-- please check your rights at the border.

And there's thunder. That NEVER happens where I live. I think that the universe is made ...
I hope you're okay! (I wouldn't be surprised if the Universe IS pissed. ^^)

Joyfully. There is plenty of room, and the weather is unusually nice.
You're sweet.

In the 1800s, the 1800s was the modern age. Do you know what I mean? Back then there were tons of middle-class women fighting as abolitionists, and they were appalled that slavery was still legal in the US when it was outlawed in Britain, France, *AND* Spain.
Actually, I find that depressing, too. ^^;;; I find human nature on the whole rather something of a double edged-swords. When we're brilliant, we're awesomely brilliant, but when we're stupid... well, we put just as much effort into it.

And, of course, the end of economic slavery came much later than the end of legal slavery. Women are still fighting to make sure our voices are head. There are too many people in this world who want to take your freedom away from you-- you always have to fight.

Eh, well, you could be in Indonesia.
This much is true. But just because it's worse over there doesn't make what's going on here right.

I'm glad to hear you're okay! ^__^

Hey, just a lurker w/ friends in OH, who let me know that the partnership benefits in Cleveland Heights are not affected by the "law." Similar to my own hometown in Philadelphia. So my friend and his partner still have _some_ protection. *sigh*

Which gives me hope for fighting on a local level.
