AUTHOR'S NOTES: As always, I have to thank you for taking the time to read my story! Sorry about that first chapter-- this thing wants to be a novel, and I keep trying to poke it to make it move faster. Hopefully now that the background is in place, we can get to the good stuff! I'm so glad you enjoyed this part.

Thank you so much for saying this! I was worried it wasn't coming across well, or that Jack seemed OC.
This is the utterly broken Jack we never really saw, holding on to the faintest sliver of hope to keep from completely losing his mind.
Especially after reset, I'm convinced Jack has a point at which he'll loose someone so important he no longer sees a reason for playing by the rules. He may be immortal, but he's human. He's not a Timelord-- he's not *built* for this endless living. As soon as I saw him begging Ianto to stay in COE, I thought of this.
The implications of Jack's sacrifice for Ianto....
I do promise a happy ending, since I'm a hopeless romantic. It's just I'm also bitter and sadistic, it may have shades of gray. I'm so glad people are enjoying reading this as much as I'm enjoying writing it!
Thanks again for commenting!
