[the video feed wobbles a bit, showing some of the bustle of New Arrivals before going dark briefly. There is more disorienting movement, flashes of color as the person holding it slumps against a wall, sliding down to sit on the floor. The Guide is propped up against his knees, showing a pair of thin shoulders and the bottom half of a face.
Then his head tilts down a bit, the rest of his face coming into view, wide eyes staring at nothing in particular. The boy looks stunned, actually. The sound of his breathing is rapid and shallow, and he sits very still for a few long moments. Then a bitter smile forms on his lips.]
….tch...This is pointless. How many times do I have to die before it actually works? The world keeps giving me back this useless body…why not save it for someone who actually wants it.
[he pauses. He doesn't seem to be aware that the Guide is on; he's talking to himself.]
So the planet’s gone. Congratulations, Commandant. This is just what you wanted, isn’t it? [He laughs, a high-pitched, dry, cruel chuckle, as if he’s actually delighted to hear about the destruction.] If only you were still around to celebrate.
Ironic, isn’t it? That trash like me is the only thing left.
[There’s an unreadable glimmer in those green eyes that might be triumph, and might be sorrow. It’s impossible to tell before the screen goes black again.]
