A fairly ordinary one, as far as I can tell. Early twenty-first century. No signs that magic existed until a few years ago, and it still wasn't widely believed. We had space travel, but only slightly, and it wasn't accessible to most people.

It's hard to describe the magic succinctly. Essentially, the effect was to create what we call "magical girls," a type of heroine with abilities far beyond those of ordinary humans.

You mean like a type of witch, sorceress, or even enchantress?

I suppose "witch" or "sorceress" wouldn't be an entirely inaccurate term. The emphasis was more on physical ability, though each had a few of what could be called offensive spells available.
