[The feed clicks on, and the guide's camera is directed squarely at Erik. For those who might be in the area, they'll notice that the guide itself appears to be floating on its own; otherwise, those catching this feed through the network might simply assume Erik's found something to prop it up on as he broadcasts ( Read more... )

That's a pretty telling question.

Is it? [He knows it is, it's a redundant question.] Some of us have little to hide.

It's simple deduction. Someone looking to divert attention would draw attention to it, instead.

[She's not sure if he's recognized her voice, so she'll go ahead and identify herself.]

I tried the wine again, if you were wondering.

[There's a faint smirk on his side that can't be seen, but probably heard through his tone of voice. He had an inkling that it was a familiar voice, but he's talked to so many since then...]

I can assure you I'm definitely not one for diverting attention. But putting that aside, does this mean you've taken a liking to it? The wine, I mean.

We had this discussion, or something like it. The masks we wear, this sort of thing. ...Why are you asking, though, about abilties?

Even on its own, the wine was good. I was a little surprised, but I'll trust your tastes in drink if I need to find something in the future.

Because it's related to the type of figurative masks worn in my world, so to speak. That and I sometimes entertain the hope of finding familiarity.

[A chuckle] My tastes in drink are travelled, if nothing more. I'm certain we'll find something else you'll be fond of. Though the use of the word 'if' is truly a shame.

Then you're describing yourself?

[A thoughtful pause.] And just how often are you assuming I have a need to drink?

I am. I'm well beyond the realm of 'normal' in my world; but here? Just labelled with the haphazard term of 'slightly abnormal', no doubt. I wonder if I should take offense.

That depends on yourself, and how often your find yourself needing one.

I haven't met that many with supernatural or incredibly exceptional abilities... And I hardly drink.

Even if that's the case, in my limited experience there's always something strange that defines the refugees here. And what do you do as a substitute for drinking? After a long, difficult day?

Even someone like me could have something like that, then.

[Get ready for this one, because she is every kind of not joking.] I pray. I read, too: philosophy, history.

If you did, I'm sure you'd be kind enough to share, wouldn't you? [That's an expectant tone, that.]

[Erik... actually cannot fault that.] That's not surprising. You seemed like something who would be well-read.

How would I show you something that can't be seen? [And her tone is sharp with a note of challenge. You show me first.]

It was my own choice. Being what I was, the biggest freedom I allowed myself was a few illicit books now and then. Nothing vulgar, understand, but some things I had been scolded for once or twice.

[His tone is sharp in return, too, but laced with amusement.] Surely you can string a few descriptive words together to get the point across. [He does get her actual point, though.] If it's a matter of show and tell, it's not nearly as satisfying through the network.

History and philosophy are interests of my own, actually. We may share similar tastes in reading material.

I could, yes, but why give you a meter when you've given nothing at all?

Oh? Who have you read? With any luck, I've heard of them.

Then state your terms. Easily solved.

As of late? I'm more inclined toward history. Have you read The Diary of a Young Girl? I found a copy of it, surprisingly enough, in the Thor's library.
