The Case of the Overworked Doctor | [Text]

Aug 28, 2011 21:41

Hello. I'm Dr. John Watson, and I'm looking for anyone with medical training or healing skills who would be interested in a permanent job working at the Refugee's Haven Medical ClinicWe started out with a few permanent staff members, but thanks to the wormholes that's been cut down quite a bit. Right now I'm the only full-time doctor on staff, and ( Read more... )

An advertisement for help? You must be wearing yourself out, Doctor Watson.

I've been a bit busy, yes.

You do look it.

[And the following might be surprising to some, but completely logical for Wesker. Help in a place where new refugees = potential new "samples" to work with? Clandestine experiments with a group of X number of people? Basic access to certain chemicals/supplies he might want? Sounds about right to him.]

And I'm willing to offer a bit of my time, if it'll ease your burden.

[John does hesitate a moment before replying.]

That's very generous of you. You've had medical training then?

[Why the hesitation, John?]

Yes. [In a roundabout way. True, his experiences lie more with... experimental biological tasks, but medicine tends to make its way into that, too. Wesker is clever and intelligent enough to where he could easily manage the position of someone helping in a clinic.]

Of course, perhaps nothing as impressive as what I'm sure you're used to. But I know my way around medical equipment.

[Because you can be a very strange, scary man sometimes, Al.]

That's a start, but I'm more interested if you know your way around patients. Have you worked in a hospital or clinic before?

[I'm not strange and scary at all. Just a regular innocent scientist over here, yup.]

Would the task require me to be an actual doctor? I would hope not. [question easily deflected, but he'll concede somewhat.] Such establishments aren't foreign to me; one time the ship even decided to toss me into the role of school nurse for the month.

I assure you that tending for the ill is not beyond my abilities.

I had that job once. My most interesting patient was faking.

[He's still hesitant, but he can't really afford to be too picky.]

To be honest I can use all the help I can get. We don't really have the facilities for complicated lab work, so we only handle the basics. It may not be very interesting for you.

That's a shame. So was mine.

What time I do not spend in the labs is idle time, at best. Interesting or not, it is better than doing nothing worthwhile on the ship at all, wouldn't you agree?

It's certainly better than some of the ridiculous jobs they have.

Indeed. So what task would you have me assigned to?

I'll have to think about that. It will probably depend on what kind of response I get.

[Just then he has a thought.]

Have you had the opportunity to learn about some of the more advanced medical technology on the ship?

Quite so. I am a scientist; that type of interest seems to be an innate and universal one.

Maybe you could "modernize" our lab work then? We've been doing things the "old fashioned way", just because that's what I'm familiar with. I'm sure there are better or faster tests available.

Easy enough, Doctor. I will see what I can do.

Good. That should help. We don't have much budget for equipment, but we might be able to ask Wayne Enterprises for a donation if you find something you need.
