[Vic's voice is a bit shifty, but he clears his throat first before asking.]

So, um... if someone's not listed anymore here on the ship, what exactly does that mean? Just wondering.

They are no longer registered on Thor's records and therefore, they've left the ship.

... So that's it then. They just jumped ship because they felt like it. [Vic finds that incredibly hard to believe, especially from Stephanie. Not that he knew here all that well but she just... didn't seem the type.]

They don't leave on their own accord.

They don't? Does this have to do with that Drive thing?

In a way, yes. The ID creates wormholes and people arrive and leave through them. When someone is gone it means they were taken back to their world through a wormhole.

[And Vic's just so grateful for the layman's terms. Seriously.]

So they're still alive somewhere then? Even if it's not here?

They are alive back in their original planet, during a time the planet still exists.

Really? Guess that's better than being here in a way. Good to know.

I'll be blunt: it's not better.

If they don't return, they will eventually catch up with the planet's destruction. And be destroyed along with it.

Sounds like people are doomed either way.

You consider being on Thor "doom"?

Well people are here 'cause their world's blown up and they can just go right back whenever and maybe not avoid being blown up with it. I mean, just being is better than being totally obliterated, but it's not exactly great knowing that you could just wind up where you were before.

True. But the way I see it, everyone will die sooner or later, either because your planer blew up or because you get hit by a bus. Thinking about it or that you might get sucked by a wormhole won't achieve anything.

"Doom" is only so if you want it to be so. Call it a possibility.
