[the Guide's in Max's hand, turned on deliberately even though she's not looking at the moment. In fact, she appears to be glaring at the wall in her room. However, considering a glare is pretty much a standard Max expression, this isn't particularly remarkable.]
So is the job system actually rigged or what? Three months in a row, I get bosses who want to dress me up in weird costumes or make me sell stuff that no minor should be touching. And now this.
[she grimaces, and leans over to grab something from the table by her bed, holding it up to the camera. It's a magazine with an ad for a dating sim game entitled Boy of Your Dreams!!]
Both at once. They wanted me to dress up like a guy for the customers because they're too nervous to talk to actual guys. Seriously!? What's the big deal? Boys are boys, they're not any scarier than anyone else, and instead of teaching these poor girls to grow some spines they shove some stupid video games at them so they never have to interact with a real one ever again!

[then for no immediately discernible reason, Max tenses and whirls around. There's a tearing sound and a halfhearted clang as her fist skims over metal, and the strange armored figure that suddenly appeared behind her takes a step back--and vanishes.]
[She stares for a moment, half crouched, obviously looking and listening for another attack, but nothing happens. As her breathing starts to slow, she looks down at her arm.]
[there's a diagonal gash across her biceps about a handspan long, and her sleeve is now soaked with blood.]
