Watson glared at me, terrified though he clearly was. “You will tell me everything, sir.”

That is what courage is, straight up. (And the fact that he has the wits to figure a not-hungry vampire is less of a threat than a hungry one, and that he's deduced Holmes is not entirely a savage killer since he and Mrs. Hudson are still alive -- just, daaaaaaamn! I'm fairly certain I would have ended up a drained corpse in the river.)

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Compassionate Badass Watson IS my glass of tea. This is the kind of guy who has the brass courage to befriend a vampire.

No doubt Holmes could hear the rapid heartbeat and and detect the fear pheromones too.
Thank goodness Watson's shattered nerves were made of steel and honey badger piss.
