The seed of this story was my drive yesterday through California wine country - hot and beautiful this time of year. Took only a moment to picture Watson and Holmes enjoying a holiday in France.

Poor Watson. Jolly good whump you laid upon him this time! Kidnapping for ransom is a really good plot.
And thoughts of Mrs Hudson and her claymore for the win. Although I now picture her only having to pry up the floorboards beneath the thistle cross-stitch that says: "Stay Calm, Be Brave, and Wait for the Signs".
