I will leave a proper review when I've finished listening to it, but can I start off with the fact I love how you've ordered this, and I am excited and then some by the songs you chosen.
This looks amazing (John Murphy and Bear McCreary and Clint Mansell OMGGG <3 <3 <3 <3 <3). Definitely downloading for when I get around to reading the fic.
Okay. So, I am now going to talk about your song calls. At length, no less.
A Space Boy Dream - Belle & Sebastian
I love the beat of this song, and the long line of words as lyrics. And then the beat changes and it just feels like space, how everything can go one way until it changes.
The Enterprise - Jerry Goldsmith
First off, I love this song. I have only hazy memories of TMP, but there's something so iconic about the instrumental sweep - how the Enterprise gets to explore, and Jim's joy at being on such a ship.
In a Crisis - Elsiane (Elsieanna Caplette)
The cello sets the stage from the get go, and there's a palpable feeling of not-quite-dread, but something coming. At the same time, it's terribly sad. Listening to your mix, I could easily link scenes I'd worked on from the fic to songs, and I imagine the Reliance here, listless and empty, floating in space
( ... )
The beat and energy of this song are simply fantastic - that sense of being thrown back, and the panic and rush of everyone trying to find themselves again, easing way as the song does to something settled and completely different.
Xingu River - Philip Glass & Uakti
I enjoy how distinct all of the songs are - a lot of these instrumentals feature instruments I don't readily recognize, and this is one of them. But it's insistent, and it doesn't let up - and it suits both Jim and Spock.
What Do You See? - John Murphy
The song has such a build-up to it, carried through the Delta-IV, coming to the wreck of the Kenntnis. The underlying vocals in the song really carry it well.
The Nursery - Clint Mansell
This, to me, felt like the Kenntnis itself, walking through those corridors - like Jim, picking up the book that contained the story he'd just lived
