My vacuum cleaner died :( I think it is probably fixable, if there were someone who fixed them. But the one guy in town who rebuilt this vacuum a few years ago has retired and gone out of business (I guess he moved to Mexico). So I'm looking at buying a new vacuum. As something that's going to get lots of use, I want something that's going to work ( Read more... )

I have a Dyson Animal because we have a cat and I'm allergic. We love it. I can't think a negative thing about it except they're expensive. :(

It's expensive initially, but when I think of the number of $100 vacuums I've purchased that haven't lasted and what I paid for the Dyson I have and how long it's lasted (and how well it works)... I know it's worth it!

I have a Dyson and have had it since 2004. No problems with it and the only "repair" we needed was when Shane vacuumed a ballpoint pen.

We have an Oreck with the HEPA filter bag. I love it. It's lightweight, it's quieter than my old vacs and while it was $400, it's lasted over a decade with one ONE serious repair (that was only $75!) I have friends that have a Dyson, Kirby and rainbow (not all in the same family) While all were equally $$, the rainbow broke within a few months and was impossible to get the rep on the phone to get it repaired, the kirby was shoved in a closet because it was so clunky and heavy it was too hard to use, and the Dyson is happily going strong. If I had to buy a new one, I'd probably stick with Oreck, or buy a Dyson.
