Dianthus question

I have a question regarding the Dianthus flower. I am not sure of the correct spelling so please correct me if I am wrong. Does Dianthus, namely the ' Sweet Black Cherry' specimen, handle the desert enviroment well or is it a Tropical region or Temperate region flowering plant species? And how often should I water this particular plant?

A fast Google says that they're hardy into zone 10. Mine in zone 6/7 get pretty scraggly in full summer heat and humidity, so you may find they benefit from getting some shade. Otherwise water when the soil gets dry and deadhead regularly and you should be good to go.
