Help Me Identify This Insect

Mar 30, 2012 19:07

Hi everyone,

I've been relatively busy in my garden and have a lot of things planted up both inside and outside, and am starting to see the first shoots of various plants.

Description of problem + picture )

garden pests: insects, zone: usda 8, garden critter id, fruit: strawberry, zone: usda 9

Would it be possible to say roughly whereabout you're located? Trying to hunt down possible pests are easier by region than by gardening zones :)

Hah, sorry, I always manage to forget something :) I'm in SE England, just on the outskirts of London city.

Hard to tell, but it might be some sort of damsel bug. (http://bugguide.net/node/view/7387/bgimage, http://extension.usu.edu/files/publications/factsheet/ENT-146-11pr.pdf). Which doesn't narrow things down much. But if it is a damsel bug of some sort, they're generally considered beneficial insects.

That second link has some notes on how to ID them.

That does look like the closest I've seen which matches where I am. Thanks :)
