plant ID help, please

What is this plant?  My neighbor gave it to me last year, but I'm not 100% positive if it is the exact same plant or if it is another which grew from a seed from that one.  I think it's the same one though.   She doesn't know what it is called, but says she has a friend who claims it is a weed.  Still, neat plant, even if it is.

don't know where you live (you should really put the zone in the tags) but that sucker can be highly invasive in certain areas

Ooh, that sucks :( I'm in 3a. From googling quickly, it looks like it is mostly a problem near riverbanks/water, which I am not. But still, I'll pull any seedlings next year :(

Keep the plant. just don't give it to anyone near water and keep the population down to one or two individuals. Invasive plants escape because we do silly things like dump plant waste in ravines or grow weedy plants in areas where they can escape.

It's a prohibited noxious weed in Alberta, Canada, which means you have to get rid of it if you find it here.
